this is a work in progress as I have to share internet time with 'lil brother so I will edit and add text and more photo...stay tuned in please

Ahhhh...finally 'lil brother is off to check out more stuff for his trailer or 4 wheeler so I get the internet!!!

these are a couple more pictures of me leaving Anchorage! Again on the move and hold the camera an shoot and hope I get something!

Gas prices just about 12 miles south of the city limits...we are paying 3.69.9 here on the Kenai.

this is a model house built by Hall Quality Builders I went to see just to check out their construction and such....

Nice looking Hickory cabinet kitchen....but...backs of cabinets are press-board not plywood.

this is where I got the heebie-jeebies...all the ceilings and walls are this funky textured stuff..not popcorn texture but like a plaster texture...how in the world do you keep that clean?? collects dust and dirt in millions of crooks and crevices!!
Plus nice way to cover up sheet rock without having to tape or compound.

Nope can't picture us living in this type of house! We've been spoiled with our natural wood beams, wood cathedral ceilings and all.

Now this builders homes I like! He builds the shell and you finish off the inside the way you want!!
Well constructed, solid and fairly inexpensive at starting $41 per sq ft.

this house is a 20x32...sweet

I really liked this one, two story...it will have a peaked roof on it when done.

Like this color stain too! Ahhh geeezzz the guy who I've been leaving messages for that builds log cabins just called....
So next week I get to go talk with him and see his work...I have already checked out one home he has built and love it.
The lady said I could come back and take pictures but I just haven't caught up with her at home yet.

Hey LOOK...I found the local Eagles club!!! Just outside of Kenai!! guess I gotta renew my membership!

Well it turned out to be a gorgeous day so I thought I'd check out Old Kenai village and the visitors center.
This is a metal sculpture.

Love the signs!

Well so much for my walking an taking pictures of the Old Kenai village....I knelt down to take a couple shots of this, stood up and went to turn around.....well these hiking boots have that non-slip grip sole.
Needless to say my right knee, that has been surgically repaired twice, I turned and my foot didn't...snap, pop...oh crapweasel...sharp drop you to the ground pain.
Slowly turned back hopeful the knee would pop back in but nooooo....so a couple tenuous painful steps with the god awful crunching, snapping and clicking...
I managed to get back to the car.
Geezzz I hate when I do that and usually I am so careful. Having had both knee surgically repaired they have not bothered me much with all the stomping through bush and bush cutting. Lots of hills and trails walking with no problems...so home I go and finally had to give in an take a pain killer...so now it's a dull throbbing
But it shot my finishing the Old Kenai village and seeing the Visitors center for today.
Tomorrows another day!

these metal salmon cutouts are everywhere in Kenai...every street corner has a large cement cistern of flowers and one of these in it!

I just had to post this....my snooky's sculpture he just finished and without me!!! bummer..this is the first one I haven't been part of creating....
Beautiful hon!
Ya nailed it on the composition, balance, and 3 dimensional aspect...wow you have been listening to me as we've worked on the others!!

well friends this is no longer a work in progress....this is it for today.
I will go to Old Kenai and take photos of the Russian Church and things tomorrow.
I am hearing from quite a few that they are coming to the City Data BBQ I am putting on this Sat.
Look forward to meeting these people who have been in touch, some for over 2 years.
I am especially looking forward to seeing "Freezengirl" Faith again and meeting her hubby.
Faith (hi there as I know you read my blog) who I drove down to Homer to meet once I got here...
Faith has been a wonderful grounding, talk til dawn friend!
Hope your all enjoying the photos and blog....it is so much more to see it with your own eyes. 'til tomorrow...that is if I can get the internet away from "lil brother!!!

The final shots of my excursion north towards Anchorage

The final shots of my excursion north towards Anchorage...Portage Glacier...on the road into the Glacier area

No that is not water....it is SNOW! does not leave this area at all during the summers few months

Turnagain Arm tunnel leaving the Portage Glacier area

I had forgotten (last time I drove this was 1981) that from on up was all along the water...you can see some of the traffic in the lower right hand corner....click on all images to enlarge for better views
Tide was out so lots of mudflats...and the kind you do not walk on as it is like quicksand, many have died by getting sucked in and then the tide comes in an bye bye...

I am getting close to the outskirts of Anchorage and this is as far into the city as I want to venture soooo....looking for place to get off and head south again.
Now all who know me well as saying..."what??? Bon not going into a city???" as they know I love cities....but..ehhhh...I like OLD cities for the wonderful old architecture mixed with modern.
I was just not into city trip this time, maybe if snooky was with me....ahhh oh that's right he hates cities!! Missed on this trip snooky and all trips for that matter.

you can see all the houses dotting the hillsides...it's a bit blurry as this was when I just held the camera up and shot pictures!! too much traffic!
hahaha not many came out as I have never done this before. the thing in the bottom of the photo is the car door edge with the guardrail just above it.
whew...turned around and headed south...back to the semi-wilderness....
