Alaska is awesome!

Having a wonderful time wandering the beaches, touring around the area
looking at properties and hanging with a great girlfriend.
Ocean fishing and meeting 2 great couples from Canada that
have been fishing on Robert's boat for several days.

Here's a few photo's from around Homer.

Lands End Point on Homer Spit...the seagull population is
massive due to the fisherman

felt so sorry for a couple of fisherman...new at the fishing thing obviously as
they cleaned there Halibut on the public cleaning station....realized
they had forgotten the cooler to put the fillets in...
yup...don't leave fish unattended...by the time they returned to the table
the seagulls had taken every scrap of their catch off the table...
gone....bummer

Bishops Beach....the amazing thing here is how quickly the
scenery changes and the light plays on the mountains
when I see something now....take a photo asap as it can be competely
clouded in, in a matter of seconds or the light changes

the driftwood on the beaches...beautiful

view from down on the end of Bishops Beach

the moon was almost full last night an I did take photo's which I will post at
some point.
Heard from a fellow from the forum I am a member of an
a trip to float down the Kenai River in search of bears is
planned for next week some time.
this weekend I am headed to Wasilla and hope to hike
Archangel and maybe Hatchers Pass
stay tuned for more photo's
I sure do miss that hubby is not here with me to enjoy all of this.

internet access again! yayyyy!

Kick'n Murphy to the curb now!
well...the marathon computer troubleshooting started last night with Faith's computer.
She has been having trouble for about 6 weeks now and last night it crashed...
stopped connecting to the internet.
Many hours last night and all day today finally, a new modem,
tweaking and into the bio's to get rid of a nasty bugger of a virus/worm
that got by her anti-virus we are back in business!
I do have my laptop but did not want to hardwire into her modem until
I knew what was wrong with her system.

So now photo's from yesterday...
no I have not even had time to look at the CF card with the 100's of photo's
to see if I can fix it to retrieve the photo's.

Faith and Owen's property in Homer....what a gorgeous oasis...
truly a "secret garden" parcel of land

walked up the road to look at the 1 acre piece that could be bought
abuts Faith/Owen's property

walking on Homer Beach area...heavy overcast and drizzling

just had to take pictures of the textures patterns made by the receeding tide
something about walking on the ocean is so good for the soul

this noisy couple was not happy that I was in their space

the driftwood is fabulous here in Alaska

this is looking back at the mainland area of Homer from the Spit

the unopened buds of this flower are really really neat to see
all scrunched up...the photo's are a bit hazy as it was misting rain
and ground fog

looking across Cook Inlet to the mountains

Homer Spit from the beach

more shots of across Cook Inlet with Lupine flowers

the first row of boardwalk store/restaurants on the Spit
the next shot is better but I just had to get a shot of the old
antique truck! looks to be a Model A

the glacier across Cook Inlet

more of the Spit

The Salty Dog ...nope didn't go in...not to many people around even though
there was a cruise ship in....but it was getting time to get back to the car
and retrieve my cell phone to call dear hubby
Poor hubby is stuck back in MA in an unbearable heat wave

the Seafarer's monument on the Spit in rememberance
of all who have been lost at sea

last year I photographed this eagles nest located right next to the road
on the corner of Lake Rd as you turn to go down to the Spit
doesn't seem to bother the eagles that they are right on the edge of town and
next to a busy intersection

I had been waiting patiently with the camera to my eye for such a long time
waiting for momma eagle to come an feed the fledgling
an of course....this couple started to ask me if there were actually eagles in
the nest....I took my eye away from the camera and sure enough
momma landed in the nest!
damn missed that shot

momma feeding one of the fledglings...click on the photo and enlarge it
you will see there is a second fledglings head just under momma's
chin/neck area

baby is not happy that momma has left

foiled again...
I still jump when an eagle takes flight!
so none of my shots are clear of the flight out of the nest onto the branch
for cleaning of her beak...even though I am using a monopod
that might be part of the problem as it is not as easy to track an
eagle in flight with the monopod

beak cleaning time

I have watched many time this ritual...the eagle cleans it's beak then flies off
into the nearby tree that the male sits in
and yes once again the taking flight startled me and
movement of the camera on the monopod didn't allow for an
easy tracking shot

darn I wish this shot had come out clear...
will have to go back an try again....
pretty much know the feeding time...that is if it stops
this drizzling rainy weather

momma and poppa eagle squawking up a storm after feeding the babies
of course they were probably protesting the amount of people who had by now gathered
to take photo's of them

today I did go an looking at a couple of properties/houses that are sale
the first house...yikes....$137000 is the asking price and oh my gosh
when the realtor said it was a fixer upper she wasn't kidding.
but she didn't even realized how bad a shape the house is in as it is not
her or her companies listing.
It is a complete tear down...the owners let the corners rot so the house has
shifted so bad that all the picture windows on that end of the house are
pressure fractured... large cracks where the ceiling a roof meet, mold in
and on the walls....the views are spectacular!
Not a project that hubby and I want to get into unless they sold the property for
like $45000. I say so low as the yard is a junk yard of old vehicles, just plain
junk everywhere and not maintained...the electric is still a power cord run from
the temporary hook up to the house that has been run over by a lawnmower
and electrical taped in places, the septic is probably a crib holding area.

Then off to see the next place....again beautiful property with potential..
one top log though has hollowed out and rotted back into the log about
a foot or so...cute TINY cabin but aside from the hole in the top log...well maintained
almost 2 acres and the place to build would be just above this cabin on the back
part of the land as a house would look right over the top of the cabin.
Road is already in for building up there.
asking $147000.....steep price for what it is.
Our plan of building what we have for floorplans is looking like a better option still.

well hopefully I will get out an take photo's again tomorrow...still waiting on a phone call so I can go back
up to Nikiski to winterize and tarp the motorhome.
then I can be on my way for exploring up around Anchorage and above areas.

Hope you all enjoy the photo's and that this adventure is not too boring to read...
Later folks

Murphy is still hanging around here in Homer Alaska

Well damn Murphy and his fiddling!
I am unable to upload all the photo's I took today to my smugmug
account so...I will try again tomorrow.
I am posting many here but....
I took about 84 shots today here in Homer.

Woke up to a drizzling rain, overcast and the mountains clouded in.
I can see the bay and mountains right from Faith's windows! yayyyy!
The best part of the day around here really is after 2 pm until about 10 pm
for photo taking.

Yesterday Faith..bless her and I am very grateful to her as
she drove me all the way up to Nikiski to deal with hubby and my
motorhome.
No it did not want to start so my brother had to go borrow jumper cables
to get it started.
I drove it over to another friends house where it will spend the winter.
I still have to return to stable the gas and tarp it.

Faith has never been up to Nikiski so I showed/walked our property
on the lake with her. It still is not cleared as the excavator has not been
repaired! ....damn

As we drove thru Soldotna she showed me a fabulous bookstore!
Had a wonderful lunch there as there is a little bistro within the bookstore.
Being as we are both book hounds we spent time pawing over the selection
of books!
I had to keep telling myself "NO you can't buy any"

Today I spent walking on Homer Spit, the beach and just wandering.

okay computer glitzes and photo's will not download
so I will try again later

pop back in later please

Strike 3 for Murphy

Well friends and readers....Murphy is really really getting on my nerves!
It is day 4 of being in Alaska and Murphy's Law of what can go will go wrong
has struck again this morning.

I tooks hundreds of photo's of our putting new poppets on the trailer,
the trip down to Homer, of our fishing trip, the big ass fish Rick caught,
the pod of 60 or so otters out at sea...

Went to transfer the photo's this morning to update the blog
and my laptop would not read the card.
After fiddling around trying to figure out what was wrong...
I had reviewed the photo's on the camera periodocically while on the
water fishing so I knew the card was good.
Looking at the card in the little card reader I realized the card was sitting
crooked ...soooo...
removed the card and reinserted it...no go...
Then I took the card out and looked at the pins on the card reader
Crapweasel...one pin was bent, looking at the 8GB card the
pin hole was damaged by it so....all of my photos cannot be
retrieved.
thankfully I did not reinsert it into my camera and do damage to the pins in the camera!

I do have a second card and card reader with me so I am in luck that way but....
Lesson learned ...my card readers are now in a hard plastic carrying case
as somehow something got into the card reader just enough to bend the pin.
First time for everything!

So the news is....
Rick caught the big fish, 48lb Halibut...I caught 2 20lb'ers ...Barret (a child) caught the
first fish of the day! We had our limit withing hours after
going out 17 miles to fish.

Faith (Freezengirl) came to the camp area on Homer Spit and picked me up last night
and will be giving me a ride up to Nikiski at some point here in the next day or so to
retrieve my car and deal with stuff up there at our land.

The original loose plan was for me to be dropped off in Nikiski
and retrienve my car, deal with the land and things but...
When one is dependant upon others for transportation and things get Fubar'd
ya go with the flow.

The guys were already a day late for the fishing trip so I did not feel it was
right to ask them to now go a total of 65 or so miles out of
their way to drop me in Nikiski.
I'm glad I didn't ask them to do this
as it was we arrived at the camp ground at 9 pm so dropping me in Nikisk.

Plus I wanted to go fishing too...

That's about it for this post....an one final thing

damn it...Murphy take a flip'n hike.
